Published by Central Baptist Hospital Cancer Program

Beyond the Fence: A Culinary View of Historic Lexington is available through popular community events, internet sales and the following retail shops: Artique, Barnes & Noble, Central baptist Gift Shop, Decoratifs, For Friends, Joseph Beth Booksellers, Keeneland Gift Shop, Kentucky Horse Park, Kentucky Proud, Morris Book Shop, Old Kentucky Chocolate, Peggy's Gifts & Accessories, Polka Dots and Two Chicks.

Beyond the Fence: A Culinary View of Historic Lexington will take you on a captivating journey through Fayette County’s past and present. The world has long been intrigued by the majestic landscapes of Central Kentucky replete with manicured pastures, elegant homes, and iconic fencing….. miles of unique stone, plank, and iron. The book’s 288 pages will provide the reader with a view of life behind the fences and an overview of the rich heritage that has shaped the modern Bluegrass Region.

Pressed between historical vignettes and exquisite photography, Beyond the Fence affords a seasonal view of foods and menus that blend traditional and modern techniques, while offering a glimpse inside some of the area’s most enduring gathering places. Central Baptist Hospital commissioned Marc Manning of Versailles as the book’s photographer and Margaret Lane, a published historian who worked closely with Dr. Thomas Clark for many years, as historical editor.

Local Fare, Noted Chefs, Food Writers and Celebrities: Focusing on long standing success in Lexington, area restaurants, chefs and food writers have contributed recipes providing a glimpse of our local fare and include: Phil Dunn, Dudley’s on Short, Mousetrap, Jonathan at Gratz Park, Alfalfa’s, Keeneland, Joe Bologna’s Pizzeria, Greentree Tearoom, Cheapside Bar and Grill, Sharon Thompson, Gingko Tree Café, Malone’s, Sal’s, and Magee’s Bakery.

Notable Neighbors: Surrounding Lexington are long established businesses and attractions that have contributed to our regional appeal. Historical vignettes and recipes in the book feature the Shakers, Weisenberger Mill, Kentucky Executive Mansion, Ale -8-One, CastlePost, Highbridge Spring Water, Rebecca Ruth Candy Factories, and Kentucky River Palisades.

All proceeds from Beyond the Fence: A Culinary View of Historic Lexington will provide continual funding for the Central Baptist Hospital Foundation Cancer Program, which is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals and families touched by cancer through patient care, research and education initiatives.

I have purchased four copies, one for me, two for my daughters, one for my sister. I purchased the original three in May, at the Alltech convention and finished out my Christmas shopping last week with your order. I love the book.

This is for a Christmas gift so I have looked it only briefly but see that it is very well organized. The history pieces I've read are great and the recipes will be tried by the recipient, I'm certain.

I absolutely love this cookbook. It's destined to become my new favorite. I bought one for myself first; then a second copy as a gift. We both love it. Beautifully illustrated, great recipes, & love the historical aspect of Lexington.
